ASTYM Treatment or IASYM is a technique utilized for tissue healing at the cellular level. It helps healing not only with the injured tissues but also with scar pliability and mobility by utilizing specific tools to encourage realignment of tissue fibers in areas such as muscles, tendons, etc.
This technique is so effective and scientifically developed to target the cause of pain rather than symptoms. ASTYM treatment is unmatched in its ability to resolve tendinopathies and tendonitis, scar tissue limitations and other tissue disfunctions. ASTYM therapy combined with exercise has helped countless people by restoring their movement and decreasing pain while assisting them to return to prior activities and improve quality of life.
Dry needling, or myofascial trigger point release, is a newer technique skilled and trained clinicians utilize to help with some pain relief. The clinicians use a thin filiform needle to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying myofascial trigger points, muscular and connective tissues to encourage an inflammatory response and encourage realignment of tissues and improve mobility of the muscle while also decreasing pain.
Manual therapy is completed utilizing skilled passive mobilization of the joints treated and working on specific movements to improve overall tolerance of activities. It is intended to improve tissue extensibility, increase range of motion, modulate pain, and reduce inflammation. Combined with mobilization of the soft tissue surrounding the joint, manual therapy can be very beneficial to the recovery of a patient.
Our physical therapists can provide instruction on exercise programs to strengthen the muscles required to successfully walk with new a prosthetic limb, instruction in use of the prosthesis and adjustments to ensure proper fit and function, gait training, or instructing a patient how to walk with prosthesis.
Shoulder rehabilitation performed on patients includes to range of motion and progressive strengthening exercises and manual therapy to improve range of motion and decrease pain with goal of returning patient to functional use of the upper extremity.
