Eye Conditions We Treat
Diabetic Eye Conditions: Patients with diabetes are at increased risk for eye disease due to high blood sugar damaging the eye’s blood vessels. Over 40% develop some form of diabetic eye disease, which can lead to vision loss. Annual dilated eye exams and maintaining healthy blood sugar, blood pressure, diet, and exercise can help protect your vision.

Glaucoma: An eye disease that damages the optic nerve, which carries visual information from the retina to the brain. Increased eye pressure, or intraocular pressure, can stress the optic nerve, leading to irreversible vision loss and, if untreated, blindness.

Keratoconus: A non-inflammatory condition where the cornea thins and bulges, causing distorted vision, light sensitivity, and decreased clarity. It often appears in the late teens or 20s and can affect daily activities like reading or driving. Early detection through routine eye exams is key for managing this condition.

Macular Degeneration: Macular degeneration, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is the leading cause of vision loss in adults over 65. It affects the macula — the part of the retina responsible for sharp, detailed vision — causing gradual deterioration that can impact daily activities like reading and driving.

Macular Hole: A macular hole is exactly what it sounds like: a hole in the macula, the center of the retina responsible for central and reading vision. Specifically, the hole or defect occurs in the fovea, the center of the macula and the most delicate part of the entire retina.

Ptosis: A condition characterized by the drooping of the upper eyelid. It can affect one or both eyes and may interfere with vision depending on severity. Ptosis can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later in life (acquired) due to aging, injury, or underlying medical conditions. Treatment ranges from non-surgical approaches to surgical correction to restore eyelid function and appearance.

Posterior Vitreous Detachment (PVD):A common age-related condition affecting about 75% of people over 65. It occurs when the vitreous gel inside the eye naturally shrinks and separates from the retina.

Retinal Vein Occlusion: The retina is a thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye that sends visual signals to the brain. When a retinal vein becomes blocked—called a retinal vein occlusion (RVO)—blood flow is restricted, leading to swelling, bleeding, abnormal vessel growth, and possible vision loss.
